Using OpenSea with Splits

Updated 8 months ago

You can use a Split on OpenSea by pasting the Split's address into the creator earnings section on OpenSea.

When creating a collection on OpenSea, you can add creator earnings (i.e. royalties) and specify the address to which the earnings will be sent. OpenSea’s instructions are here. You can follow those instructions, and just paste in your Split contract's address into the "Creator Earnings" section.

OpenSea makes it possible to list additional recipients and split creator earnings through their UI directly, however, it's important to note that OpenSea uses a push-model for payments. This makes it more expensive for the buyer each time your NFT is sold, imposes limits on the number of collaborators/recipients you can list, and doesn't allow you to reuse that royalty configuration across other platforms (Zora, Highlight, Manifold, and others).

At this time, OpenSea does not allow setting a Creator Earnings for an individual item. Creator Earnings can only be added at the Collection level. In the future, we hope to see more platforms follow Zora’s approach in letting creators specify a “funds recipient” field on a per-item basis.
